Earlier this year, I made my way through Julia Cameronās The Artistās Way for the first time. It was messy (and not anywhere near perfect), but it was thought-provoking.
Then I resumed my life as regularly scheduled.
The practice for morning pages didnāt quite stick for me. My artist dates were few and far between. But by answering the prompts and discussing my journey with fellow creatives in process⦠I uncovered a longing to call myself an āartistā again.
As an actor, thereās a delicate balance to be had between the creative side of the business and just that⦠the ābusinessā side.
Itās easy to get so wrapped up in putting together the perfect pitch packet, signing with representation, and getting self-tapes in on time, that I lost sight of the parts of acting that made me want to be an actor in the first place.
So I started working one-on-one with a Life Coach. ā¦stick with me here.
My friend who was running the Artistās Way group also happens to be a Certified Life Coach, fellow artist, and just all-around lovely human. She explained the differences between therapy and life coaching and she did it much better than I will, but hereās my brief summary:
Therapy = processing the past.
Life Coaching = tools to bridge the gap between the present and the future.
Now itās important to point out that Iām a person who truly prioritizes healing and personal growth in life. Iām in therapy. I meditate. Iām certified in reiki and restorative yoga. I read a lot of self-help books. Iām an avid student of To Be Magnetic.
All of these things⦠plus a Life Coach? Itās a lot. But I had to give it a try.
Generally speaking, Iāve always been a very forward-thinking kinda person. I put my end goals first and firmly believe in the power of vision holding the life you want instead of focusing on the life youāre currently in.
This is why I created an entire Notion template to organize my acting career (and help my friends organize theirs as well!).
In the span of our 3 months together, literally everything changed.
Together we got even clearer on what I wanted ā¦and guess what?
I got it.
Hereās how we did it and what happened.
